The assignment for Arteca was to design a place for science and research but also a place for student life and relaxation. Our location was located in the center of historic Olomouc, next to the town hall, overlooking the nearby park.
In the designing phase, we tried to use this location by maintaining the connection with the park and emphasizing it with the shape of our materials. Arteca is divided into two buildings, the scientific part, which also covers the underground and a leisure café.
THE MATTER Filling the territory with matter and making the park gardens inaccessible to the public.
DISTRIBUTION Dividing the basic mass into two parts - preserving the original passage and creating a path that connects the city with the parkland gardens.
MONUMENT Increase the Arteca and reduction of public café. At the same time, we are elevating the existing development - highlighting the monumentality and importance of the artesian.
CLOSURE Beveling of both buildings - giving the illusion of a larger and more open space and greater light intake.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPROVEMENT Demolition of a minimal portion of the surrounding buildings; conversion of the cafeteria into a school cafeteria for student and public use.
PUBLIC SPACE The space between the two masses is filled with public space for student workers to relax.
