THE NEW SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE

The subject of the bachelor thesis is the extension of the Faculty of Architecture to the existing Údolní campus, which is bounded by Údolní, Úvoz, and Tvrdého streets. Part of the campus belongs to the Faculty of Fine Arts, to which the building of the future School of Architecture is connected. Due to the inadequate capacity of the buildings on Poříčí, its relocation is planned to improve the quality of life at the faculty, test its functionality and open up new possibilities. The aim of the project is to create more space for the teaching itself but also to connect it with other functions related to the campus and complement its function. I am complementing the school with underground parking with student housing functions, a rentable co-working space, space for special interest groups, and a café - open to the student agora. With the proposal for a new faculty of architecture, I am trying to complement the mass on Tvrdého Street, which is growing towards the BUT campus. I take inspiration from the shape of the octagon, which is located on the corner of the plot and houses the auditorium of the Faculty of Fine Arts. The octagons overlap and create a pattern that defines the mass on the first floor. The inspiration was taken from Structuralism, Metabolism.

After reading several books or proceedings and publications, I have come to the conclusion that there is a need to strengthen the female part of the professoriate, not only in art schools. In the Czech Republic, for example, there are still only two women professors in the arts, there is still a clear framework in most cases where they have never been open to all without discrimination, and this is still the case today. We still encounter various forms of gender, social and racial discrimination, even in institutions that even have the fight against these inveterate prejudices on their agenda. I incorporated housing into my design thanks to the Copenhagen Free University organization, which functions as an apartment that turns into a university with the morning crowing; the housing was to function on the principle of teaching in a common space designed for several capsules. The teacher would go to the students.
